Don Robertson

“Life’s been up and down, but it’s been a living,”

Don Robertson

Last Monday I managed to catch up with Don Robertson, the first European Yo-Yo Champion. Don worked for first Lumar, along side Art Pickles and then for Duncan as well as working as an accomplished professional Yo-Yo performer.

I quizzed Don about his history and what he knew of others. The chat has given me fresh leads in research for a couple of more in depth blog posts and possibly a Wikipedia entry or two.

Don was inspired to try performing after seeing Ron Blowdart http://www.patrickchaplin.com/Blow.htm

“I thought well if that bloke can work so can I with the Yo-Yos”

Worked with: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Cairoli

Don very kindly sent me 6 Yo-Yos of his and some related memorabilia. Super excited to add it all to the museum.

There’s a great interview The Void did with Don here: http://juggling.tv/1255

Don also kindly agreed to sign my copy of his Yo-Yo trick book.

And he told me about this incident and many otheres…

The Press Association reports: “Seen at a pre-Wimbledon party at Simpsons tonight are Chris Evert (USA), right, and Yvonne Goolagong (Australia). Between them is Don Robertson, the European Yo-Yo Champion.” It’s June 21, 1972, and the yo-yo is the go-ahead sport for go-ahead kids.
